General Information on Membership
IMM membership is open to all individuals and organizations interested in advancing the fields of Materials Science, Technology, and Engineering to support industrial growth in Malaysia. As materials technology continues to evolve globally, being part of IMM offers valuable opportunities for networking and knowledge exchange across a diverse range of specialized disciplines.
Effective 1st November 2023, all new membership applications adopt the following expiry date format:
- Initial date of registration: 5 November 2023
- Expiry date: 4 November 2024
Please note that the membership expiry date will be the day before the initial date of registration.
Participate in committees, panels, and task forces that help shape industry standards, guidelines, and policies in Material Science, technology, and related fields
Career advancement support through access to job opportunities, industry partnerships, and increased visibility via IMM’s certification courses, broad network, events, and collaborative initiatives
Access to technical resources and publications through IMM’s biannual magazine Materials Mind, which features event highlights and activities, while serving as a dedicated platform for technical research and industry-academia collaboration
Professional networking opportunities for members through seminars, workshops, and conferences designed to enhance skills and expertise – both locally and internationally.
FREE ORDINARY GRADE MEMBERSHIP
Institute of Materials, Malaysia grants free Ordinary Grade membership to members of various recognized professional institutions and societies. Individuals who are members of these acknowledged organizations are eligible to become Ordinary Members of IMM without any annual subscription fees.
This proposal was approved by the IMM Council in line with clause 3.2.3 of the IMM Rules and received unanimous endorsement from members during the 21st Annual General Meeting held on 19th March 2011.

FREE COMPANY GRADE MEMBERSHIP
Institute of Materials, Malaysia grant free Company Grade membership to members of various recognized professional institutions, societies, and associations. Company Members of these acknowledged organizations are eligible to become Company Members of IMM without paying any annual subscription fees.
Approved in accordance with clause 3.2.3 during the Penultimate Council Meeting on 10th January 2014, and endorsed at the 24th Annual General Meeting held on 21st March 2014.
